When darkness falls and the castle chambers are illuminated by candlelight and tiny lights, it’s time for Advent tours with a truly unique atmosphere. Join us on a journey into the past to experience the magic of Christmas and discover how Advent and the holiday season were prepared at the castle.
In the evening, amid the quiet of the castle’s interiors and by the flickering light of candles, you’ll learn how Christmas was celebrated in the past, who was behind the traditions of the Advent wreath and the Christmas tree, what was a must on the holiday table, and what gifts the nobility exchanged. You’ll also get a glimpse into Christmas customs and traditions from around the world and discover other interesting facts about life at the castle during Advent.
And a little Christmas scavenger hunt awaits you. A golden piglet is hidden in every room! Tradition holds that whoever fasts on Christmas Eve will see a golden piglet—and references to this custom date back to the 16th century. At Opočno, you can experience this tradition in a slightly different way. During the tour, you’ll set out to find all the hidden piglets.
