Records and documentation of the heritage fund
One of the main activities of the National Heritage Institute is to maintain records and documentation of the heritage fund, i.e. to examine and study the assets, sort the findings appropriately, and file them in the agreed form. We also need to maintain this database so it can be of further use.
Every regional site of the National Heritage Institute in every region of the Czech Republic, as well as the headquarters, includes a department of records and documentation. The members of these teams also perform art-historical, historical and archive surveys of movable and immovable assets or items that could be included in the heritage, monitor their conditions, and warn about possible threats. They also make proposals for other worthy sites and assets to be designated cultural heritage; these proposals are then submitted by the National Heritage Institute to the Ministry of Culture. The staff members also use their expertise to develop the methodology of surveys and documentation of the heritage fund.
