The National Heritage Institute maintains a Register of the Most Endangered Cultural Heritage, accessible to the public. The Register contains only cultural heritage as defined by Act No. 20/1987 Co.. on State Heritage Preservation, as amended. The Register primarily lists whole monuments, but in some cases just the threatened parts. The Register is updated regularly by regional branches of the Institute on the basis of a soon-to-be-completed project: "Renewed Identification of Czech Cultural Monuments". As yet, the Register cannot be considered as complete.
The inclusion of a particular heritage object on the Register is not discussed with the owners, who remain anonymous. It is done on the basis of expert opinion, the sole criterion being the level of threat to the heritage value of the object. Inclusion on the Register is not a criticism against the owner, who in many cases is not responsible for the object's present condition. The Register is also not intended as a 'catalogue' for prospective buyers. A potential buyer who may have interest in purchasing and rescuing a listed object, would have to find and contact the owner on his own initiative - the National Heritage Institute does not arrange such contacts.
If you are aware of an endangered cultural heritage object that is currently not on the Register, you may send the information to the National Heritage Institute. The Institute will confirm its heritage value as well as the level of threat and potentially include it on the Register.
