Movable cultural objects represent the most numerous and obvious part of the heritage fund of the Czech Republic. These are fine artworks like paintings and sculpture, as well as works of decorative art, liturgical objects, musical items, but also technical works, architectonic elements from destroyed buildings, archaeological relics, etc.
The exact number of movable items of cultural heritage has not been calculated yet, because professional review work is still in progress, especially on items registered on national lists, which at the time were subsumed into collections of disparate items, and are now being listed separately. The total number registered is nearing 100,000, although each collection or historic library fund is listed under one registration number (and these can contain up to a thousand items, each of which is a movable cultural object).
The list of movable heritage objects has not been made public, in order to protect them from theft and to protect their owner's identity - it is only possible to view with the owner's written permission, or some other legal entitlement.
Movable cultural heritage, together with other sections of the heritage fund of the Czech Republic protected by Act No. 20/1987 Coll., on State Heritage Preservation, as amended, are registered in the Central Register of Cultural Heritage.
