Heritage Fund

The Heritage Fund of the Czech Republic represents the most valuable part of its material cultural heritage. It includes immovable and movable objects, as well as sites cultivated and formed by human cultural activities.

The methods of protecting the heritage fund of the Czech Republic are defined in Act No. 20/1987 Coll., on State Heritage Preservation, as amended.

As per operative regulations, a select category of the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic is ensured an enhanced level of protection. These are cultural items and conservation areas (heritage zones and heritage reservations). The Government of the Czech Republic then designates the most significant historic sites as National Cultural Properties by decree.

International Protection Status for the Cultural Heritage of the Czech Republic - Historic Sites Listed on the UNESCO World Heritage List

A select group of historic sites or objects protected under Act 20/1987 Coll., that are of greater significance, over and above the cultural heritage of the Czech Republic, may be included on an indicative list, from which, after a stringent selection, they may be chosen to be inscribed onto the UNESCO World Heritage List.
