Publication and Presentation Activities of the NPU

Publishing Work of the NPU

Publications represent one of the important roles of the National Heritage Institute (NPU) with regard to the public. With the presentation of professional output, methodological approaches to restoration and other publicity papers the NPU wants to bring to the attention of all who are interested in heritage the wide spectrum of activities in heritage care.

The individual departments of the NPU (in total 15) have their own publication activities (see NPU Publications); most of them publish work proceedings, guides to sites in their administration, and other publications connected with their work and activities in the region (for example A Guide to the Architecture of Ostrava; Brick Calvaries in South Bohemia, catalogues for exhibitions etc.); several of them publish their own specialist magazines. The Headquarters of the NPU, which does not administer any sites, is orientated towards publishing methodological publications, abstracts/proceedings for various conferences, new editions of publications by significant personalities in heritage care and further illustrated publications. It publishes the republic-wide specialist Heritage Preservation Journal, which has been issued since 1937.

Our aim is to respond to the questions pertaining to heritage care, to explain the work of National Heritage Institute, which may not be easily understood by laymen, and, above all, to bring to the interested public new information about events in the field, as the prime task of the NPU is providing good care of the national heritage, and publishing is the means of bringing information about it to the public.
